History - or not Print
This section will become comprehensive in the very near future. I'm currently reconstructing the official history from the records given me by the Club Secretary. Choice raceday records, and some anecdotal history of the World Beeries will show up soon.  Or not.  I've promised this since 2001, now, and it hasn't happened.  (Hey, at least we're moving into a proper content management system...)
Other Clubs' History Print
Cadzow Racing Club
1974-1984

Cadzow Racing was established in St. Mary’s Ontario. It ran to the same specifications as Westove racing: standard Strombecker motors, chassis, tires and track; 18 volt transformer; clear body shells from England. The shells were painted to be exact replicas of the cars they represented The tracks were serviced by a row of pits with mechanics working busily on stationary cars.

The club was comprised of a group of local men in their 30’s and 40’s, in 1contrast with Westove which was comprised mainly of pairs of fathers and teenage sons. The race rules or both clubs were identical. One member of Westove became a member of Cadzow when he attended a nearby university. He said “Westove is a racing club that drinks – Cadzow is a drinking club that races.”

For 3 years the 2 clubs visited each other, although 200 miles apart. In the 6 meetings, Cadzow racers won 54% of the head to head races, although the World Beeries champion all 3 years came from Westove. In the 6 meetings Cadzow prevailed 4 to 2.

Like Westove, Cadzow started with tracks of modest length but quickly enlarged to 131 feet. It was the considered opinion of Westove’s top racers that Cadzow 131 was the most interesting and challenging of all tracks including Westove’s two current layouts, Traill 160 and Donaghadee 165.

Lakefield Racing Club

In 2003, a second race club was founded in Lakefield. It races only on the Traill 160 circuit using Westove Racing Club’s cars and under WRC’s rules.

The membership of this club is comprised of 3 fathers in their 30’s and 5 sons and 1 nephew, ranging in age from 9 to 12.

After 3 seasons it must be reported that in all 3 years a different champion has emerged, and always from the ranks of the boys. To add to the humiliation of the fathers, the road hockey game at the annual BBQ has always been won by the boys. On one occasion neighbours gathered, shouting “the real Canadian Game – road hockey!” (They were, of course, cheering for the boys.)

World Beeries: See the Events section.

1970: The initial setup of the club championship was that each half season would crown a champion.  The inaugural season started in the winter, resulting in one champion.

1978: The introduction of A and B Champions for the season, and a new format for Club Champion - one day raceoff!  Champions were crowned every half season.

1981: The Club Championship would now be run once a year, at the end of the season (springtime).

1988: Season Championships were now awarded once a year, falling in line with the Club Championship.

For explanations of the methods of crowning Champions, see the Rules section under "Racing".

A "forward 5" means that a racer would challenge the one 5 positions ahead.

In this instance, racer 11 for some reason did not race.  Racer 10 (to the left, EG) challenged racer 5 (again, to the left, CD).  EG chose track 1 and the Ford F100, while CD raced the McLaren M8F on track 2 (and won).  CD therefore retained position 5, while EG stayed in position 10.

Race 3 shows a race where the challenger (position 8, ST) won, beating the defender (position 3, FD) and therefore switched positions.

The positions marked with an x denote temporary positions - they were contested but are not settled, as later on the racer in that position will challenge.  For example, in race 1 8x was successfully defended by FD.  Later, in race 4, FD challenged for 5x but was unsuccessful (and was relegated to position 8).

Final rankings can bee read from the last column of the ladder (aside from P1, which is ST):  2-FD, 3-BS, 4-CD, etc.

As this was the final race night of the season (series XLVIII), the championships were to be decided by points.  DN was crowned "B" Champion.  However, ST and RT ended up with identical point totals, requiring an "A" Championship runoff...

So, ST was crowned the 2001 "A" Champion.
